As your premier local Jeep® dealers, we are of course obsessed with the news surrounding a potential electric-powered Jeep. While you won’t currently find an electric Jeep SUV anywhere at Sansone Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM, you can certainly expect some of these rugged fuel-sipping off-road champs at our dealership in the near future.

Recently rumors have been building about the potential of a plug-in hybrid version of both the Jeep Renegade and the Jeep Wrangler. While its somewhat easy to imagine what an electric Jeep Renegade might perform like, an electric Jeep Wrangler is something of a fantasy.

The current line of Jeep Wranglers hitting the road today are off-road champions, unafraid of even the worst trails and runs in Moab, Utah. That said, they’re powered by classic combustion engines, which provide plenty of power and torque when you need it. Although, an electric Jeep Wrangler might actually be better taking on the trail.

As it turns out electric motors transfer power to the wheels much faster and much more efficiently than gasoline engines. In a gasoline-powered engine, you end up losing a lot of energy as it moves from the cylinders to the wheels. Whereas, the movement of power from an electric motor to the wheels is far more instantaneous and nearly no energy is lost. So that means, an electric Jeep might perform far better off the pavement than a classic gasoline-powered Jeep.

The future electric Jeep model lineup is still a way out, but you can check out what’s currently offered at Sansone Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM, and we can talk more about what you should be able to expect from this future line of SUVs.
